Government Affairs Committee

The duties of the Government Affairs Committee include formulating and recommending policies related to legislative and regulatory issues.

Committee Areas of Focus

Each year, the Committee charge(s) is defined by the MDS President and Board of Trustees. The corresponding charges for the current governance year are as follows:

  • Support legislation promoting oral health in Massachusetts 
    • Make recommendations to the Board of Trustees on key legislative priorities
    • Evaluate MDS support or opposition of other legislation related to oral health
    • Engage with legislators
    • Organize Beacon Hill Day
  • Coordinate grassroots events within each District and establish a new program to be implemented at the District level for grassroots legislation
    • Encourage members through this new program
  • Assess Beacon Hill Day as it exists and other ways to effectively grow a presence in the state house
  • Develop a database of legislative advocacy topics and continuum of education on legislation for members 
  • Develop an initiative to improve communication with members around legislative initiatives to be used throughout the year
