Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is composed of volunteer dentists from varying backgrounds and cultures who are focused on ensuring a diverse and equitable environment for the Society where all members feel welcome and included.

Committee Areas of Focus

Each year, the Committee charge(s) is defined by the MDS President and Board of Trustees. The corresponding charges for the current governance year are as follows:

  • Conduct a thorough review of all MDS policies including but not limited to the constitution and by-laws and establish a “baseline” for current Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Create and implement a Climate Survey for MDS members in order to gather information regarding DEI.
  • Create a plan to incorporate DEI activities into Yankee 2025.  
  • At the request of the Board of Trustees, collaborate with other member Committees in support of a DEI agenda.
  • Collaborate with other organizations (dental schools, dental associations, dental industries) in support of a DEI agenda.
  • Create a series of town halls or speaking programs aimed at educating our members on DEI policies, laws, and best practices.
  • Review DEI committees and activities currently underway at other dental associations across the United State, including the American Dental Association.
  • Develop an initiative to improve communication with members around DEI initiatives, including but not limited to use of the MDS website, email social media.
